Yeah... in short, the senders are absolute junk.
Access is seriously easy... 1. remove the 4 screws that hold the door on 2. remove the door 3. remove the gas cap 4. remove the rubber cover thingy 5. remove the bunch of 10mm screws. 6. disconnect wiring harness to sender. 7. try to start car to bleed off fuel pressure 8. disconnect fuel line (there will be some leakage) 9. remove assembly. the assembly contains the sender and pump. a few vendors offer a new sender, with pump. They ain't cheep... but one of these days, I am going to need one. My gauge isn't any better. |

You can carefully pry the sender apart and clean it with fine sandpaper and then reclose it and reinstall.

While it's out you can also use a digital volt meter to check and tweak the float to give you the resistance readings you need.
I had the desired resistance numbers some years ago but can't lay my hands on them now. Hopefully someone will post them. Easy mod to do. Jake |

I think off the top of my head it's 10 ohms empty and 90 ohms full.
