Another "bridge to nowhere" only a lot bigger.
http://www.thenewamerican.com/index.p ... ents-high-speed-rail-plan Studies show it would cost much more than projected and not pay for itself in ridership. China would be building the rolling stock. My Illinois governor is shamelessly promoting it like P.T. Barnum. "There is a sucker born every minute." The taxpayer, apparently. |

That's because our governor is a tool.
I hope this gets beaten down, we do not need a high speed rail. This isn't Europe or Japan. Matthew |

Highspeed rail only makes sense in the North East. After that, we have airplanes.
We are too large. I used to believe that highspeed rail was a viable option, but airlines kill it. Here in CA, we have 4 major metro areas, LA, San Diego, San Fran and Sacramento. They want to create a train to run between all four and include Reno and Vegas, and ultimately, Phoenex. It looses its punch when it would take 2.5 hours to train to SF, whereas it takes 1 hr to fly... and most airline tix are about $100 round trip. The math sucks. |

1 hr in the sky.
It takes me 3-4 hours to fly to SF, and I'd take a train over the airport security comedy any day of the week. That is assuming TSA doesn't screw up a train system too. With the mess getting into LAX, I bet it'd take you longer. San Diego is a pretty quick airport to get in and out of. Plus the trains won't get delayed when there's fog. |

LAX is pretty good, especially at the Southwest terminal (terminal 1).
If I have a 8:00am flight, for example, I will aim to get to the airport by 6:30am. 90% of the time, I am at the gate by 7:00. I check in online, and all I need to do is check bags. |
