My 8 yr old V1 detector hasn't been very sensitive lately and then it finally started going bezerk and falsing 2-3 signals non-stop.

I figured might as well get it updated for their $150 fee while I'm at it.

I called in and they said they just replace the whole detector for that fee. So I sent mine in and also ordered a few accessories. When they called for payment they said that I didn't need to upgrade to get it repaired. So they fixed the detector for free and only charged for the accessories.

Sweet!

On another note I bought my dad the newest $500 escort detector for his b-day which has gps built in for red light cameras, speed cameras, and also has the ability to filter out repeat false frequencies based on your gps location. I didn't get to try that one out though.

Hellova deal.

I had a V1 (about your vintage) beside my Escort 7500 towing the race trailer on I5 to Laguna Seca so I had a chance to run them for 6 hours. They were close to identical in performance.

Your dad must have the Escort 9500, nice rig.

I thought about upgrading to their 8500 XL @ $299 but my 11 year old one seems to still be working very well.

I have an 8500 X50 which in the last month or so has been giving me false Laser detections. I think I need to send it in and have it calibrated and updated.

yea, some of the reviews have been saying things like that, that's some of my hesidency. Some claim it's heat related but my 7500 never leaves the windshield, probably sees 130 all summer.

I've tried the 8500, but not side by side. I liked the frequency display, good for checking for familiar falses. Range seemed as good as the V1, but with no arrows I found myself rubbernecking for cops when it went off.

One common comparison I see is that the V1 is too big, which is bs. It's the same overall size as the escort, just shorter and wider.

Yea, I've always liked the arrows. Never could figure out why the other manufacturers didn't jump on that bandwagon.
The V1 is $100 more than the 8500 but $100 less than the 9500 or the Redline.

I did notice that they have a remore module for a very reasonable $39. I really like that, blank out the detector on the windshield (especially at nite) and mount the module on the dash where others can't see it.

I also really like Escort's new IQ but it's way pricy at $650.
But, it's nice since you could say: "No officer, that's just a GPS screen."
