wow. that's a loaded question!
Without knowing the chip, I can't give you anything concrete. With timing, it is set at 6* BTDC, I would start to advance 2* at a time and test drive it. I doubt you can go much past 10*, tho. Do you have any documentation with the chip? Who burned it? Have you gotten up with them? |

i set it at 6* ,it didnt like it.reset @4 but havent test drove yet.the chip is of 'unknown' orgins .it was in car when i got it.i do know its modded because the a little lite on pollution equip. low temp fan operation w/no fault codes.ive run w/snapon scanner on it every thing looked ok. i know that i need a new tune w/the new combo i have just iam undecieded on an intake so i was tring to make do with the current one untill then.

well... there are mods and then there are hacks.
Gutting emissions and turning off a few warnings are not what I call mods. 4* is too retarded for timing, I would go back to 6* and see what happens. |

well it looks like the only thing to do is have a new chip burnt ,because at 6*it's full advance@3000rpm and 42* I think it should be around 36 to38 total.Part throttle is fine but wot it detonates a little. Just need to pick a intake now. Thanks for advice.

Because I own a timing light. The 36 to38 is a guess based on other information I have gathered. I'am not looking to cause an argument only seeking out all the info I can get so that the combo will be well sorted and proform at its best.

Fair enough,I dont have a chip reader but I do have access to a snapon scanner. Its a few years old and has not been updated since about '96,but it still seems to work fine. Thanks

Please explain. (checking timing)because all I know is how to set base timing. My mistake ,I thought it would be like a non-efi when it come to checking total advance.Formal tech training preaches Stock Stock Stock .Still,it doesn't change the problem.

In addition, anything done with the car in the garage will be under VERY light load conditions. Programmed timing for a specific RPM can vary as much as 15-20 degrees for the same RPM at different loads. You would either need to look at the .bin file to see programmed total advance or data log to see the timing figures I think you are after.

How are you setting this 17 degrees base timing? The specs on my cam call for base timing anywhere from 14* to 17*. I found it idled best at 17* w/ the ESC disconnected. Here are the specs: VALVE LIFT INT. w/ 1.6 0.5808 VALVE LIFT EXH. W/ 1.6 0.5808 L/C 112 ADV OR RETARD 4 INT. DUR 306 EXH. DUR 306 INT. DUR @ .050 240 EXH. DUR @ .050 240 OVERLAP 82 INT PHASE ANGLE or LC 108 EXH PHASE ANGLE or LC 116 |

Just sounded strange. Never heard of a base timing that high.
