- simple question i know, but how hard is it to pull the panels off and just clean off/regrease the power door locks?

they get stuck like half way from locking and it's also really hard to turn the key.

sort of embarrasing when trying to take a date out in the car and the door locks wont lock and really hard to push close/open.

Not hard at all. Just as you described - take off the door panels, clean, lube.

Most years the door panel comes off with a handful of screws (don't forget the one behind the interior door handle) and then lift off the top of the door.

Not as embarrasing as getting locked in the car with your date and having to remove the top to climb out.......just saying......

The door panels are easy.......the second time around.

What Matt said- the screw behind the handle, the plastic lock slider knob has to be pulled.

If the panel seems hard to take off, you missed a screw. At least these don't have the plastic push pins.

Lubing the locks is on my to do list too,

What did I get myself into?

-> I got the FSM out and I am looking for all the screws on it and around....

nothing is still budging.

there is glue though that is holding the brown trim panel onto the car door still.

I just want to get at the locking mechanism so I can get my power door locks to work again....

*whine whine whine whine....*

so i get my door panels off and everything is going all good and i'm pumping in my graphite powder and of course...

i snap off a little plastic piece in there that connects everything together... whatever ill fix it later move on to passenger side... snap the exact same part on passenger side... *sighs* ... keep pumping everything full of graphite powder and then my passenger door locks up on me from the outside. the key now no longer turns or does a damn thing. hm, well that take a bit to fix... tell then I'll just go set up the jb weld on driver side and come back to this and pull it apart... start to setup some jb weld out side at 1 am... and then it starts to storm on me.... figures... I have my both door panels pulled apart and it starts raining on me.

**** it im going to walmart to get some quick setting epoxy and a beer. i'm tired and ill mess with this tomorrow. oh yeah, no I wont, I have get up early to go take the gf to school in the vette I promised I would let her drive...GRRRRrrr

ok. I feel better now, i have vented.

good post... but I think the graphite lube worked honestly...

now I do have one problem someone where in my messing with it froze the passenger side door lock from the outside.

I can't use a key on the passenger side door at all.

everything seems to be in functional order. - no one knows how to fix do they?

You need to determine if it's the lock cylinder itself or the linkage. Try disconnecting the linkage from the cylinder and see if it turns with the key. If it still doesn't turn, try a different key (actually, try that first). You can also shoot a little WD40 in there, maybe there is some corrosion.

Did you reconnect all the harnesses? Check for power at the motor when you hit the switch...the wiring in these cars can be interesting...

ok. I'll grab the FSM and a test light and see what I can find...

off top of your head does the power route through that passenger side door lock - even from the driver side? there was that little red transistor there and I was wondering if I might have fried it somehow...

it is really wierd, 6 wires back there for the window...

I found a local lock smith who will rebuild the handle lock for 20$ if i pull it and bring it to him... or rekey a junkyard handle to my key if I bring him one.

cool stuff. was expecting that to be more expensive
