I thought I might pick up a water pump to keep on the shelf just in case. I figure if I have a spare my original will last forever, lol. There's two Acdelco pumps on ebay. 252-699 run cheaper. 251-554 are more expensive. Both say they fit my 94 LT1. Anyone know what the deal is with these two different numbers?

$219 from Summit, Moe.

Probably the difference on the 2 pumps on ebay is 92-93 & 94-96.

Updating to the later style is a good idea.

Its very easy and cuts down on potential leak points.

Okay it appears both of these fit all 93-96 LT1's. Can you tell the difference looking at them? I want to make sure I'm not paying for the newer style and getting the old style.

EDIT:
The old style has one small line that is on the passenger side. There is also a T from the upper hose. I looked at the two you have from ebay and they both look like the new style, so they must be stock photos.

Ok... the difference between a 1992-93 LT1 water pump, and a 1994-1996 water pump, this will also outline the difference in water line routing.

I know the picture is poor... but it was a quick thing to give some graphical representation to the issue.

The left is the old style, the right, new.

What I didn't add to the right is the routing for the throttle body. I don't remember it off hand, and it is routed independently of the main lines.

In the old style, you will see a red line leaving the left radiator hose. GM used this T in the middle of the upper rad hose. This hose was ordered in 2 pieces and good luck finding them. It was easier to get a new hose and slice a half inch from it. This T creates three potential leak points.

The red line then passes through the throttle body, on off towards the surge tank/heater.

The new style pump is cleaner in that it has ports for heater lines dedicated to the task of providing hot water for the heater core. This means, if you do run a TB bypass, you can now effectively remove FIVE potential leak points by using the new style water pump!

Thanks for the drawing that explains the difference. My original is a 94 so I guess if it looks different then it's the old style.

yes, I would expect it to be the new style without the stupid T on the upper hose!
