Funny I put a 4.0 in my sons jeep for about $1000. It brock down proably because of my son (Lol). 5 year unlimited miles. They had us another motor in 3 days. No questions asked. Been about 6-8 months now and he has been rock crawling, all over the desert, sandoons Pismo Beach, and today all over Gorman on the grapevine.

If you are a shop and you order from then they will pay you back for install.

I like crate engines but how do you buy from someone else that gives this kind of warrent for a stock motor.

I don't plan on buying one. But it is a hell of a deal.

Steve

We have a Jeep with the 4.0 Litre. Killer engine.

I want the Golan 4.6 stroker. 270hp, 325 lb-ft torque... heh heh heh.

Sounds like you scored on this deal.

The 350 is expensive... I know why, too. They are figuring that they are selling two motors for the price of one, so the price is high.

You won't gain any power from this, and since you don't know the origins of the rotating mass - crank, rods, etc, - there is a risk to be taken.

Take this engine as an option:

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/NAL-12498772/

That is tons more engine for not much more money, and you know what's in it.

You may have some issues with the belt drive, but you can always get March pulleys and brackets. 24 month, 50k mile warranty.

And then you have guy's like engineholic who build motors and do it right. Now, I have no experience with his work, but what he says strikes me as that of someone who is good at what he does.

I cant' see a price, website isn't working right. In general, I'd stay away from AZ engines...you have no control over build quality. I'd stick with a reputable local builder.

Yea, Steve.

I've only purchased one crate motor in my life and that was because I needed to get a motor in my van in 3 days to make it to the racetrack. I bought the GM truck crate, put 100k on it.

I'm different from everyone here since I can't justify the extra expense to have a high horsepower motor in a street car, I've been that way since I was 20. I'd rather put the extra money in brakes and suspension.
Unless you're like Will and race a couple times a month, I don't think the bang equals the bucks.

If you want a motor that's 4 times the value of your car - sure.

Well I just read that the value of our C4s just went up after the auction. $ Makes mine worth maybe $4-$5000 now.
To tell the truth any motor I put in will be worth more. The autozone may be included.
Lol

I agree with you Bill. I have a friend that builds racing engines for the boat drags more then likely I will have him do it , Barns is a hell of an engine builder.Jim Barnes Custom Engines.

I like balanced and blue printed engines.

Nothing wrong with that unless he starts talking you into big buck stuff.
At least with someone you know, you can go right back to them if there's problems.

It won't be too much of a problem spending too much money he knows I am a cheepskate. I want the best for the bucks I am willing to spend. He knows better than to make me mad in this little hick town. Word of mouth on your reputation is still great here. Newbeee have a rough time with locals here. It is tough to work with the old guard.

I will be doing the assembly I haven't bored a block since the 70"s.Lots of improvement since then. I just want more horse power then stock. Thinking of a stroker, not sure. Right now with only 125000 miles the engine is strong. So not too big of a rush. I want to build up a spare that will just bolt in. Need informatiom on what pistons, Cam, and modification to the heads are worth the time. Not going to race my daily driver on any tracks. I would build up a different vehicle for that.

But on the serious I am big on tolerances!

And your point is one that very few have on this or any other site. Keeping the original on your irreplaceable matching # vett. Most are looking for more and I too am in a rush to keep it running.

One good thing is I will have the orginal motor to put back in one day. Or for my grand kids to put in.
I don't disagree with you.

Oh yea, agreed.
I do a build sheet on every motor I build. Tolerances need to be matching or as close to that as possible.

It's extremely important on that yellow car in my avatar where you're running a "stock spec" low horsepower motor. Everything's important in that engine because you're looking for tenths of HP increases. Just profiling the rocker arms to go to max lift without going illegal can take a full day.

I agree Bill... hard to make people believe how much time it takes, we kinda gotta forget its an "Engine" , It is a machining project/assemmbly where quality control is no different than manufacturing, or re-manufacturing anything else.

Well, I'm not big on the re-manufacturers.
When you build a high perfoemance street engine your reputation's on the line.
When a re-man builds one, they want it to get past plus they're interested in volume over quality.

Up until 5 years ago, the motors I built were to try and win championships so usually I didn't care how long it took as long as it was built to my satisfaction.

And yea, a lot of people don't get it (which is OK), it takes a lot of time to build a good, correct street motor, double that for a race motor.
The other thing people don't get is the cost.

You guys don't know what I grew up with, top fuel dragster. Warren & Coburn were my family friends. My Dad's first job was at Rain for Rent working with these guys. Every engine built was to perfection. These guys were world class racers when I was growing up. I felt privileged as a kid being aloud to work on their engines. I know what builder's pride is.

The normal working guy would never be able to make a motor to compete on his own. Thus them using the later unknown, unproven builder or rebuilders.
When your competing your pride is on the line. So I love to see guys with a few Balls taking on this challenge.
I admire you both and all that partake of this challenge.

This corvette was what I was in love with as a kid.

Well of course we don't Steve, you never told us.

Nice dragster but when I was on a team, the engines were in front of the driver.

And while I was on a 3 car team, my cousin and his pardner
were putting on the "Strickler & Jenkins Performance Clinics" at the tracks.
