Back in the summer i noticed that my coolant would stay around 210 230 depending on the day which is testy if you ask me but my oil would always go to 240 250 no matter what. I wondered why bc my thesis was always if your Water is 210 220 expect 230 240
For my water img run the water wetter. i believe is what it is, and i would like to get the oil down would a oil cooler be a major job, and would it be worth it.
Thanks in advance! looking for any opinions on Temps as well.

This is a sandwich type it go's in between the oil filter and block You can keep the STock Cooler heater plate BUT you need to either run a remount type filter or a Short Oil filter.

I removed the Stock oil cooler and heater pluged the water jackets on the bock for the cooler lines so I can use a the stock size oil filter.

I ran the Rubber hose f FWD next to the oil pan to the front of the car you can either tie the New cooler to the front of the radtiator or I put mine in front of the front fan tie wraped it to stuff I think it holds about 1 or 2 Qt of oil and when you do a oilchange jack the car up pull the plug it takes a while for the oil to drain all the way out.

Here a couple pictures how I ran the hoses
This with the stock oil cooler sanwitch plate and the short oil filter.

You will have to trim the Plastic Fan Shroud and the rubber feet not a big deal.

I heard the 2 core works but Hey Might as will get the 3 core.

But I planning to get a Dewalt Fan.

First and foremost----Is your oil temp gauge correct????

I know mine isn't but haven't got around to playing with it.

After your car sits overnite, turn the key on, check water vs oil temp. Should be within a couple of degrees since everything's at ambient.

I've checked my water temp gauge against a certified thermometer and it's within 3 degrees. My oil temp gauge is 10 -15 degrees different at ambient.

I might check the oil temp today.

good point i have bought a temp gauge for each that will be going on the car. my only thing is i like insurance that nothing bad is going on and have been thinking about installing for a while
but im a learning and dont know alot on which way to go as in buying which piece. I agree with mav for what i need those two pieces would benefit me the most considering i dont race or anything drastic. Do you have any opinions on what he linked Bill always enjoy your opinion.

Dewitt dropped the oil temp 15-20* and the coolant 30 or so.

I run a 383 as well and my temps stay around 175-185 coolant and 190-195 oil while driving and my coolant will rise to 205 while sitting when my Spal fan kicks on and drops them back down.

Both of my gauges are withing 5 degrees with a mech gauge.

Dewitts offers direct fit and I flushed the system when I added them which cleaned out a lil rust crud.

I got them as a package when they were on sale for around $650 and am glad I did. I plan to add an oil cooler when I get a roadrace oil pan more for the added oil capacity than anything as I will also be running a supercharger.

Dewitts are a 2 core i believe

I got the DeWitt's for my 92, but used the OEM fans.

Now, my engine is stock. but on the freeway, it never gets above 194 or so, if cooler air, 188. If I don't have the
a/c on, it will get higher once I stop. I really should get the fans programmed to come on sooner.

I got a 3 row cheapie radiator and it helped quite a bit on coolant temp. Oil came down about the same amount. SPAL fan, and it helped a bunch more. Oil stays about 20 or 30 over coolant, but now coolant is in the 180 range, and oil is in the 200 to 210 range. Before coolant was in the 210 range and oil was in the 230 or so range. I think getting the coolant temps down is the first step. An aftermarket oil cooler would be the second step.

This is with a pretty high powered 383. Thermostat is a 160 but fans kick on at 180 and off at 170. And the fan does cycle on and off unless it is 85+ degrees outside.

Andy, download TunerproRT for free. Download your stock .bin file from moates.net for free. Make the fan changes and other modifications you want for free. Email me the .bin file, I'll burn it to a chip for you and mail it back to you. You will need a moates adapter to install the chip, but they are not too expensive.

Ya i will agree the radiator would be first, oil cooler second. and have to get a fan. Doesnt have to be cheap but needs to be reasonable. I like what Mav linked thats reasonable and he has it so i trust his car. It is a corvette thats the most important thing.

You must lower your fan settings in your tune after installing a bigger radiator, cooler thermostat and better fan.

http://www.championradiators.com/page/401685624 Thats what they recommend for it. But that seems a little small im not really familiar with what is big and small when it comes to radiators and Fans, The 400HP would be fine, but 12in fan idk.

Ill try and look at the spal Fans, and if you run accross a link for a fit on the 85 please post!

PS> im try to contribute as much knowledge as possible i just like the insurance of knowing everything is right when it gets on the porch so i dont have to back track

You do know how big a bitch this will be to install?

There isn't space under the hood, the space inside the radiator shroud is very limited... where else is there?

Add one to the front of the AC condenser, without a fan, is the best bet.

Hey bogus,
I can imagine with all the stuff on the car but luckily all my pulleys are off, the hood is off the car, front bumper. its basically a block and frame with a 25 year old radiator sitting there lol i figured to save time and help my car now is the time to change it.

I have the lid of the radiator case off but the two lines on the passenger side are something i havent messed with before. is there a trick to the trait.

that will help a ton... but it won't change the fact that space is at a serious premium under there.

I have always felt that installing fixed headlights on a C4 had 2 benefits, simplified lighting, and the now available space (space that would have been used from the headlights swinging open).

all I can say is be careful installing anything aftermarket, and make damned sure it won't interfere with something stock.

If you are going to go without AC, now you're on to something.

There is another option, that's to put the oil cooler where GM put the PS cooler, below the rack. But I wouldn't add a fan.

Another option, relocate the battery and put the cooler there, with a fan.

And yet one more option... modify the bejeebus out of the bumper and install coolers in there. In fact, if you were to cut out parts of the honeycomb and open up the metal behind, you could install an oil cooler and a trans cooler in the front, on each side of the front plate. Add some grill work and it could look pretty sporty.

Finally, ZFDoc makes a cooler kit for the ZF6 spd. It is designed to be mounted in the spare tire cover, with the tire removed. Now, this opens up a couple of options... you can install the radiators in the spare tire void, keeping the cover to protect them, or, building some kinda vented shield. A well ducted shield might even keep the fluids cool enough without a fan.

For reference, NASCAR runs oil coolers through to the back of the car... just so you know it works!
