I'm considering a hurst shifter. Some have mentioned a pin to be removed from underneath of the shifting mechanism. While underneath it today I noticed a rubber boot covering the area. Is this so called pin underneath this. Any details ?

yes, the pin you have to tap out is under that rubber boot. it is a pain in the to install the shifter but when you take it for the first drive you will be glad you did it. if you take your time you can do it in less then a day . it would be easier with 2 people. i did it by myself
good luck.

Pic is worth a thousand words right? I just finished one about 10 minutes ago. This was done with a new trans laying on the floor. Last time I did it in the car, with the L98 exhaust still in place. That sucked!

If you clip the front lower zip tie, then pull that front edge of the boot rearward. Secure it like that with a coat hanger wire. Pry the little round ring back with a screwdriver to uncover the pin. Get a 3 lb sledge and a punch and knock the pin upward. You may have to hold the shifter to the right to get the pin completely free.

Getting the shifter out is tricky too. You'll have to remove both clips on the mid-pivot shaft and slide that shaft side to side to get the shifter out.

Reassembling the Hurst onto it is just as fun/aggravating.

Great pics CC, I wondered what was up with the zip ties. Looks like lots of fun. Of course everything is fun with these cars.

Don't be intiminated. I did it using the Helms Manual and Hurst's instructions. It was a good 6 pack job. BTW, I removed the driver's side cat (oem) and that gave me enough room to work. My hands and arms are just not small enough with the exhaust on. I had to order a new boot as mine was sliced.
