When I jack up my car I can wiggle the rear wheel about 1/8 of an inch from top to bottom. It's not there if I try from front to back of the wheel. I've been thinking of changing the wheel bearing hub. Tonight I removed the hub and it seems fine. It rolls smooth with a slight resistance. I have Banski on the trailing arms and camber.
My only idea is that the wheel bolt is not properly torqued, but why is the play only from top to bottom. |

If it's rocking top/bottom (12/6) I would check the suspension and diff components for wear/tightness. Side to side (9/3) is usually wheel bearings.
Did you compare the other side for reference? |

The way to check the bearing is:
Pull the tire Put 2 lugnuts on backwards to hold the rotor Remove the caliper or push the pads back in a tad Put a dial indicator on a jackstand against the hub and move the hub in and out to take a measurement |

It was the wheel bearing. I checked the drivers side and it had the same play, but it also has a tad of front to back. With the wheel off and a bar laying from the carrier hub to the rotor (zip tied tight to the carrier side) I could see the movement at the rotor. I installed the new bearing and the play is gone.

these bearings are only good for about 80k to 100k miles.
I got 100k out of a set of Chicago Rawhide... very happy with that. Currently, I have some ex-Tommy Morrison bearings, made by GM to his spec, which meant, quite simply, use Mobil 1 synthetic grease! He felt that the grease was better at dealing with the loading and shearing forces inside the bearing than conventional grease. |

My DD is a ZR2 S10. They are known for eating wheel hub assemblies. It has 103k and is about to go on its third set. I'm starting to get noise from the front driver at 30mph+. They're easy to change.

Fronts on the C4 are REAL easy to change, too. Just expensive... it's the ABS stuff inside.
