DaleD | Simple question about centerbolt valve covers | ||

I bought wire looms that use the center bolts for mounting. I have no leaks, and don't want to screw that up.
Is the torque on the center bolts critical? Should I be careful and torque them to spec, or just snug them up? Thanks! |

I just snug them up. All you need to worry about is that you have a nice seal around the top of the head. They're not really under any loading, they just keep the oil in the valvetrain from sloshing all over.
Snug them up, drive the car, and check for oil residue around the heads. If you are getting it, tighten them up more. You can get new o-rings for the bolts if you tighten too far and smash one. Happens to me all the time with how frequently I remove them. |
