When you remove the rear hatch glass from a 1991 Coupe, does the painted top piece in back of the halo come off with it?

If so can the painted piece be removed and exchanged or is a part of the hatch assembly? I'm looking at replacing my (white) one with one from a yellow car and trying to figure out if I can avoid painting etc.

Thanks all!

I am sure it's a different part.

Open the hatch and check for bolts. I would expect studs on the plate coming through holes in the glass.

I have never done it, but that's my guess...

According to the FSM the hinge and glass are "serviced as a unit". Still, I'm not totally sure it can't come apart, it looks like it should but if so it isn't obvious -- wondering if anyone has done this...or if I'll just have to look for a white hinge or paint a different one...thanks all...

gee... if it's serviced as a unit, I would suspect not. I bet then it's glued on with some industrial strength super epoxy...

Yes, that panel is glued to the glass. You will probably break the glass before you ever got them apart.

You can separate it. It's GM's super strength adhesive that holds it together.

I would paint it.

I guess there is an irony smilie missing.
On my last 4 rear-windows the hinge-plate almost fell off by itself after loosening those weird long-hole locking plates.
