Aside from whoring my twisted sense of humor over here, I make a nuisance of myself on an Isuzu website from time to time.

I met up with three other guys that live in Aurora, CO over the weekend. I drove an hour and a half north, they drove an hour and a half south, and we met in Woodland Park, CO. We did a trail that was rated as "Moderate" but I think they were boasting. Nothing really hard at all. I was real nervous that I would not be able to handle it, but it turned out to be a little disappointing.

But it was the first time I used the 4WD in my little Amigo. I actually needed 4L in a couple spots. There was a fairly steep decent that would have been much scarier without it.

My little Amigo had the advantage of a shorter wheelbase then the other guys with their Rodeos, so getting around corners through tree trunks was a little easier for me.

I wish I had exciting pix to share, but I just have a few boring ones.

I will say that having some dirt bike experience helped me with my technique quite a bit. At least as far as understanding the importance of momentum, and knowing where NOT to slow down.

It is a little wierd to be challenged while driving, and only going 10 MPH. I guess it is more about Decisions Per Minute than Miles Per Hour.

Fun stuff!

Last time I was up in Seattle for work, I rented a 4wd F150 and took it too the rocks.

These new vehicles suck for ground clearance, and of course it took 15-pt turns sometimes to fit through the trees, but I was otherwise impressed.

Of course I'm used to this sort of stuff:

I'm one of the guys providing "ballast" on the back here, about 12 years ago. Now I think I need to get my own rig. SoCal is 4-wheel heaven.

Off roading is always a good time. I try to go a few times a year.

Those pics were taking last year. The funny thing is that I made it through that puddle the first time. To make the situation worse, my front rim was cracked in 12 places! Good times though!

I'm a little scared to take my 06 Xterra off road - it's my DD and I'd be SOL if I broke it....lol.

That old Toyota FJ is a nice little rig!

Yeah, the Amigo was very well taken care of for the first 300,000 miles of its life. I feel bad scratching it all up. But it sure was a blast!

I don't have any extra cash right now, but it will be a tough decision next time I do wether to buy a cheap motorcycle, mod the Vette, or lift the Amigo.

Isuzus are cheap cheap cheap! They got a bad reputation for some engine noise and such in the Troopers. Then the dealer network all but disappeared in America, so consumer confidence is low. But you can find insane deals on reasonably reliable and very capable Isuzu trail rigs, and these guys can tell you how to fix 'em.

Top button in the list takes you to the forums.

I'll probably stick with an 85 toyota minitruck or 4runner. The suspension and drivetrain is very stout, the 4 cylinders are unbreakable, and the 85s are the only year with fuel injection and solid front axle.

Get a bike first. You can always wheel a stock amigo but you can't ride an imaginary motorcycle. Well I suppose you could...

Yeah you ruby guys stick together!

Actually, my buddy is only 15 minutes away - he has a sweet 94, cammed, all set up. He's a regular mechanic during the day but a corvette mechanic on his off hours. Unfortunately, due to our work schedules we don't get to work on the cars that much. We did spend most of Saturday on his jet skis though - that was sweet. We'll be doing an oil change one of these weeknights, I believe.

Adios!

He is a member. He has one post....lol. He's a dork. He doesn't spend a lot of time on line. I tell him all the time to post more, but he doesn't get around to it, I guess. Oh well.
