I remember reading, on the CF (what's the right adjective? Outmoded, vestigial, legacy, etc?), that there was some concern over the material's interactions with aluminum. Alumiguard or some coating was not on the ones supplied by thepartsladi. Maybe call them or do some googling before you buy.
Search on "spicer" too. |

OEM was Spicer. Who knows what AC-Delco is using now. Got photos?
Hmm. Here's one. Looks similar to the original 1985 Spicers I removed, but nothing like the Spicers I replaced em with. Hard to tell what it is. http://198.208.187.182/servlet/com.en ... necd=45&acpartnbr=45U0123 |

Stay with Spicer or Neapco sealed units.

I hope this isn't one of those religious type debates ala 160 degree 'stats but...
I'm asking. in total ignorance, why are the sealed prefered to the ones with the grease fittings? |

By sealed unit do you guys mean non-greaseable?
The Spicers have a good reputation for strength, but personally I don't like the plastic seal covers they use. If you don't crack them during install, you'll crack them while driving the car. I would recommend greaseable joints unless you're drag racing on a manual trans or have extra hp to warrant it. Otherwise the greaseables will last longer (if you grease them). The non-greaseables turn to dust after they finish cooking the factory installed grease. I'm not sure if the galvanic coating is overrated or not. My stockers were all rusty when I removed them. |

I would suspect a shot of Anti-seize would fix the rusting problems.

Take a look under there and then picture having to get a grease gun in there to lube them. I used spicer and they were all metal. Part 5-799 comes to mind. Stonger only because the center cross is sold, not ported for grease. i don;t see the dis-similiar metals as an issue, after all they will likely last longer than I will.
