Are the front WB's from an older C4 (84-91) the same as the LT1 cars minus the abs sensor?

I poked around in all my wheel bearing documents saved from years of CF and Guru discussions, but never actually saved that critical piece of information...

And the F-body bearings are the ones that work if you drill out the threads, right?

Short answer is yes, they are the same other than the ABS sensors, of which there where two types (86-90, 91-96).

From my CF thread: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?t=1392417

Quote:
I did some research and came up with these as potentially interchangeable with the stock bearings. (the 513XXX p/n's are Timken/BCA)

84-85 Corvette Front: 513019 or 513009 or 513090 or 513085
86-90 Corvette Front: 513019
91-96 Corvette Front: 513085 or 513090
(513090 bearings will require drilling out the threaded holes in the flange, or installing new, smaller bolts from the backside.)

84-96 Corvette Rear: 513020 or 513013

Do not, under any circumstances, buy cheap no-name bearings. They are all made in China and look pretty, but are garbage. I've used up Chinese bearings in less than 5 minutes of hard driving.

There's also USA made brands called "Green USA" and "Bearing Technologies, Ltd". I have heard no reports on the quality of these units.

ACDelco/NDH, SKF/Chicago Rawhide, BCA/National, Timken, WBI, are all proven brands.

Read further for applications, alternate p/n's, and prices.

"AZ" means Autozone
"P/A" means Parts America, Kragen, Checker, Schucks. Prices for these vary by region.

There's also a handful of bearings that will fit but change your rotor and wheel offsets a bit.

Nice writeup, Kevin. I suggest this be packaged and put into the Tech Library.

BTW if you can get some tapered rollers, go for it.

I highly recommend the rears for a few reasons.

Thanks. I have that saved, and I re-read it. However, a question: I don't have ABS so therefore I can use any of the three "generations" front bearings, right?

I'm not sold on the tapered rollers yet, even though I had high hopes. Matt (mrc24x) put a set of the VanSteel rears on his car and after ONE weekend (two races, two qual sessions) he has slop. He commented that they felt loose, but possibly due to the bolts loosening and not the bearings.

In other words, if they get him through next weekend then my confidence is restored, if they are indeed bad, then I'll be most unhappy.

I'm going to put plenty of easy miles on them to break em in before heading to the track.

I liked the extremely tight fit on the axle splines. This eliminated the slop and clunking noises from the rear end, and probably is going to put less shock loading on the splines from a launch.
