Sometimes my car will start immediately, sometimes it takes the third try to get it to turn over. Once it does, I smell fuel. Otherwise, seems to run fine, no codes. Can this be leaky injectors?
Really gettin' on my last nerve and making my antenna vibrate. Any suggestions? I'd like to have a basic idea before taking it someplace, or if it's something simple, I can fix it.
'Preciate it guys.

It could be leaky injectors. It could also be a ruptured fuel regulator diaphram. Pull off the vacuum line and see if fuel drips out. If so, it is bad.
Fuel pump may also have a checkvalve that is leaking.

I would start with the injectors. They do die slow miserable deaths.

Remove the fuel rail and put a little paper cup under each injector.

Have someone cycle the key and crank it. Watch the injectors. If there is a dribble, or the spray pattern looks messy, there is your problem. Be sure to unplug the coil.

my experience with a bad FPR usually doesn't mean a raw fuel smell.

Check the oil, be sure there isn't fuel in there.

If it's not raining tomorrow or too cold I will be able to see. Thanks for all your help. I did get a misfire on #3, that's what made me wonder about the injectors also.

when was the last tuneup?

If there are AC Delco platinum plugs in there, they are JUNK. There is this little platinum plug on the ground strap of the plug, it burns/falls/wears off and it causes the gap to grow from .050 (spec) to .065 (way out of spec).

these plugs can fail in as little as 30k miles.

make sure to ohm test the injectors as well, if one is hanging, it will do all of what you mentioned.

Do what PeteK said first, it is the cheapest easiest check. If not the FPR then it is likely a leaky injector.

Wow, mine did. It was similar symptoms to what the OP is saying. Then all it once it must have ruptured the diaphragm and loaded the cylinders with gas. Car shut off, then actually hydro-locked because so much gas was in the cylinders (came through the vac line and into the intake). I pulled the vac line and it squirted one big shot of fuel right on the header. Vette left me sitting making it a bad night, but I know how lucky I was not to be toast.
