hi all
as some of you know, theres just a topic going on in another forum, oil pump desaster.... i also have a "sealed power" SV, SP pump in my 396, and this oil pump breakage nightmare give me some headache... i want to install a 10552, or a 10555 pump, ( i have the 10555 at home), which one would you recommend me? 10%, or 25% more volume? any downsides? i run a canton road race pan.... thanks for input |

if it was me, I would run the stock pump. The volume is enough and so is the pressure. The OEM pumps are good for 200k or more miles, too. Great design, really.

Have you run this engine at the track? Do you feel the stock pump isn't doing the job? The labels, "high volume" and "high pressure" don't necessarily mean what you might first think they mean. Unless you know the stock pump won't do the job, and you understand the oiling system and what the pump "labels" mean, you are best off sticking with the stocker.
RACE ON!!! |

The 10552 is the equivalent of the stock High Performace Camaro pump and if you have a larger pan you will be fine. I like just a little xtra oil for safety sake. It is not required, but for me peace of mind.

Hi
the pump is a sealed power SV, SP pump... what gives me headache is, that this pump is the weak casting, which give a good possibility of failure, especially used in stroker motors... i run a Canton road race pan 240-15T IIRC thank you |

just searched google for this pump issues....and come up with a related, but different story (hopefully no dupe) what material are the pump gears made of? it seems, that Melling uses powdered metal, that tends to crack and locks the pump....and not only Melling, also other manufacturers... http://www.4m.net/archive/index.php?t-9657.html http://speedtalk.com/forum/viewtopic...44a8b3c875d287 http://speedtalk.com/forum/viewtopic...69f83120f28c85 its slowly getting a pump nightmare... |
