Well, there will be a bunch of opinions on the "proper" way with most being valid. I'd think that most would agree that the best way involves removing the knock sensos in the block and using the bleed screws when draining and refilling.
The FSM will tell you to remove the cap with a cool engine, disconnect the neg. battery terminal (which I don't bother with), open both bleed screws, open the drain valve on the radiator, remove the knock sensors.
Do not use chemical flush.
Reinstall the knock sensors, fill the system leaving the 2 bleed screws open until no air is coming out. Warm the engine until the T-stat opens, drain again. Do this as many times as required to get clear liquid when draining.
Remove the coolant recovery tank & clean it.
That's from the FSM.

It's pretty much the way I do it.
I do stuff rags under the waterpump to catch the liquid coming out of the bleeders to keep the opti dry.
You can get a little more old water out by putting a shopvac on "blow" in the surge tank hole.
Get the car up as high as posible to remove the knock sensors because you need to get out of the way when you remove them (most of us have had a face full of antifreeze).
Pulling the recovery tank (the white one) and cleaning it is easy.
If you're not familiar with the bleeders, there's a pic here, it's a 92 but, I think the 94's are the same.

There are obsessive ways (no offense) and then there are standard ways, basic flush can be as simple as refilling the system with water and running the engine for a while, repeat the cycle a few times.

Or you can install a back flush kit in one of the heater hoses, and use some bottled cleaner, for more thorough cleaning. All depends on what condition the system is currently in.

Or, you can go 'all out' and do as others have suggested, knock out freeze plugs, etc. etc.

But if you take out the knock sensors, make sure you don't break off them off with the screw part sticking in the block. In other words, be careful

I'd definately pull the knock sensors, a lot of crud will come out there.

Yea, be extremely careful on pulling them, as Ralf knows.

Just blow up your motor every two years or so; when you disassemble the block you can clean it up nice and shiney

So, you have first and knowledge of my racecar?
I wish I had an unblown motor, flushed or not.

Thanks folks I will take this information in hand as I start the flushing of the cooling system. I guess it will take several flushings to clean the years of neglect from the system. Thanks again.
