GLD opened in 1955 and is the oldest continuously operating strip in the country. I've been a car nut my whole life but never been to the track much less raced so I was long overdue.
The place is a time warp.
For $20.00 one can run on street tires to his hearts' content on Tuesdays from 5 to 10 p.m.
I made 16 passes with my 'vette.
It was a blast despite the marginal track condition. Traction was not to be had no matter what the combination of launching tricks and my Nitto 315 D.R's.
Still, my times were satisfactory for a LTR 350 and I'm sure I could have easily hit the 12's with a decent launch.
I have a dyno tune scheduled for June 12 so this will be a good reference for me.
I will be going back.

Joe - we should do this over the summer. Rick wants to make a day of it, too.

Joe,

Looks like fun! You had a great day with many passes!!

I wish I could have got more than 1.5 runs on mine a few weeks ago before I spun a bearing!! LOL
Your times are similiar to my first run of 13.22 @ 106
I was on street tires and didn't really know what I was doing but was pretty happy with the results. I want to go back to the strip so bad I can taste it, but will have to wait to get this engine fixed. Just too much going on.

I'm looking forward to seeing how Matt's car will do. I'm sure it will be smokin'

Grizz, that must have been disappointing.
I had a small panic attack with visions of a tow truck after my first run. The voltmeter showed no charge.
Fortunately, it was just that the hot wire terminal connector at the generator had broken off under the rubber boot and was an easy fix.

I purchased the Crane Gold R.R.'s for use with the stock cam in the 1.6X1.5 configuration per Tpis and others' recommendation. After installing them om the Lt4 Hot Cam 1.6X1.5 (.525-.492) the engine was literally choking, way too rich, even with the new level 4 chip.
I reversed them, 1.5int.X 1.6ex. giving lift #'s of .492-.525, very similar to other modified TPI cams especially the ZZ9 (.483-.520) all of which are biased toward the exhaust.
It worked because the rough running, smokey, heavily acrid exhaust totally disappeared. Ran like a different motor. My mechanic said I got lucky and I agree.
BTW, I spent about 3 hours driving around with "Mad Tuner" Ion Soltan today performing chip reprogramming and am very pleased with the result. He will also be doing a dyno tune in a couple weeks.
