I can't seem to find the information I am looking for on any of the W-body sites... I have a 95 Monte Carlo Z34 with a 3.4L and 220,000 miles that might make 200HP at the crank. I keep reading horror story after horror story online about clutches slipping and burning up. Seems like every manufacturer has problems with this clutch....

So far I have been told not to buy:

Napa Clutch
Autozone Clutch
Centerforce Clutch
Luk Clutch
Perfection Clutch
Zoom Clutch

Spec seems to be the company of choice but the clutch costs more than my car.

Do any of you know if

Brute Power Clutches
or
Exedy OEM replacement clutches are a "safe choice?"

Sounds to me like you've been reading too many internet stories.

Luk is probably the oem replacement, might as well get the one in the cheaper box.

In my 55 Chevy I have had great luck with a built to order and my specs South Bend Clutch. Local company! I have used Zoom clutches before with zero problems, also Borg Warner,
and Napa. I have noticed bloggers complaining about certain brands. I think there is alot of variables on clutch install to single out the clutch. I.E leaking rear engine seal, flywheel, using the old pressure plate and throwout bearing, clutch adjustment and beating the snot out of it.

Matt has a good point! One of my teaching buds picked up a Jeep Wrangler clutch, flywheel, pressure plate and throwout bearing for 55 bucks. Looked new!

Brute Power, Perfection and Zoom are all mfgr by the same company.

I know Exceedy caters to the import aftermarket racing applications and I know a few guys with their stuff and it works good. I don't know anything about their stock replacement stuff.

Try to find a Luk or Sachs. In my experience Luk and Sachs are the best OEM replacement clutches availiable.

LuK is more than likely the OEM manufacturer for GM in the first place.

Like Valeo for the C4 dual mass flywheels and pressure plates.

I've seen others claim Luk is oem, but have not verified.

I'm currently running a Luk in my ZF6.
