I put on a K&N RC-5000 it attaches directly to the stock
throttle body, looks sharp , and seems to work great the car actually seemed to run better, also removed the frisbee.
and removed all the stock air filter equipment, well next week I should have my davis cap rotor , ignition module , Taylor wires , NGK sparks . lets see what that does .

I recomend the filter if anybody is flirting with the idea.

Pretty common with the fbody crowd. I bought one of those for a MAP TPI conversion but never used it.

I'd rather have a cold air setup personally.

How does the filter area compare with stock?

With the restricted underhood space of a C4, you are only going to get hot air that has past through the radiator to the filter which may negate any benefits from a better flowing filter

Interesting reading:

http://forums.nicoclub.com/debunking- ... em-is-better-t180100.html

I use K&N's on the race stuff.

I use the stock/paper type on the street.

One thing I have seen many times with the cloth/oil types is that people load them with so muck oil, they actually drip.

well the new filter attatches directly to the throttle body
so you can eliminate the stock filter enclosure and air duct leading to the throttle body. RC 5000 is for the stock
throttle body / RC5050 is for the larger after market like the bbk type.

I've been driving around with it now and I don't feel the
hot air coming up behind the rad. is giving me a problem.

plus cold air kits are way overpriced for just a tube and a filter .

these are for TPI setup only not the the late model with the mas air sensor body.

For the record, I hate K&N. impossible to coat it evenly and it will either bleed oil onto your maf, or pass dirt.

Any filter that you can see daylight through the filter doesn't belong on a car.

With that said I have them on both my cars, lol. On the vette, the paper filter is too tall and blocks the cold air intake, and on the truck it came with it.

IMO, there is no magic bullet. The only way you flow better than stock without sacrificing efficiency, is to increase the filter area. K&Ns have LESS filter area than stock, in all applications. Less pleats, shorter pleats, etc.

So, do you have any suggestions ? I would like to experiment with other options , Ijust thought K& N had more air transfer than stock , I still might pipe it past the rad. fans to get cooler air . it just seems like alot of guys use K&N in their applications .

Lots of people run drilled rotors too.

The k&n does flow more, but then so does no filter. The question is, is it worth whatever extra hp to put 10x more dirt in your cylinders? The extra dirt will always be happening, but how often would you even use an extra 2 hp or so?

They were on the car when I bought it!

I put a K&N on my Jetta and the service manager told me that if my MAF acted up they would not cover it under warranty because of the K&N.

K&N claims thats a myth.

In their tech articles they claim the oil will never come off the filter, as the air only moves through at about 12 mph at WOT. The tested this by adding 30% extra oil, whatever that is.

They go on to test the MAF with dirt and oil spraying onto it in short term test and conclude that it won't harm the MAF.

B.S. if that's the case, how did I just get a car running again by cleaning the maf? If that is the case why does the maf have a burnoff cycle?

And then in the same breath, K&N claims that crankcase vapors and particulates are contaminating MAFs!!! So, K&N oil and dirt won't, but crankcase oil and dirt will? GMAFB.
