Found this piece of plastic under the front of my filter box last night when I took it out to do the cutlid free mod.

It was blocking air flow from under the nose into the air inlet.

It is a thin piece of plastic with 2 slots in it.

Here is where it was located.

Way up in there by the X looking frame piece.

I have no idea what it is or where it really belongs.

Thanks,
Jeff

Its a deflector to help keep water and debris from splashing up from the road surface into the air intake. I'm not sure how effective it is, but they put it there for a reason.

So it just sort of lays up in there? It was not attached to anything.

Mine has plastic tabs and plastic fasteners that wrap around one of the metal to hold it in place. I can't remember if I removed mine when I installed the Air Dam on the front or not. I'll look later today and post a photo for you.

What Don said, it was supposed to block water from getting into the airbox. Mine just lays there on the 89. They might have changed it for the new body style radiator slant and/or LT1s.

The way that mine was lying in there it covered all of those openings which to me seems like it would restrict air to the filter. But I do understand that it would also stop water and such from getting up there too.
