Well, this is my winter "beater" / leased car that I'm trying to keep miles off until I throw them back the keys. it only has 35K on it and yesterday morning the belts started sqealing like crazy. Stopped by AZ on the way home and picked up the belts..yes, they still use 2. It doesn't seem like they should have been making noise with only 35K on them. They weren't cracked or anything. I threw them in the trunk for just in case.

Here's what you see when you open the hood...

I see the alt but where does that belt go?

Oh, there it is...mmm, that looks like it should be fun.

I had to jack it up and take this large piece of plastic off the bottom just to get to the bottom of the engine then the tensioners only moved about 1/2". I got more cuts and scrapes on my hands from doing that than I have in the last couple of weeks tearing the driveshaft and related stuff out of the Vette.

This is why I refuse to work on German cars. Their idea of engineering perfection is only a shade below sadistic.

I never planned on working on this car. That's why I got it with 45 miles on it. Only another year and I'll be FREE!!!

Good one Andy.

The belt is one of the few things that is not that hard to get to on a C4. Especially if you remove some things to clean up the area.

All of those things have been removed on my C4

I will not have another German car unless I win the lottery and don't have to work on it...ever.

I've had to lift the engine partway on similar cars to change belts.

My Mazda Protege5 was easily accessed but I had to take the motor mount apart to get the belt out and the new one in.
