I had a similar close call at Island Dragway about 1993.
At that time, Island had 2 trophy classes. Trophy Stock, and Trophy Modified.
As you would guess, TM was a much larger class, as no one really races a visibly stock car.
Although my 13.80 car would fit the TS class, I liked to competition level of the Modified class.
In the semi finals, I had to race a 7.40 dragster, that ran something like 175mph at the stripe.
I won the race, and the dragster past me, and smacked the right wall.
The damned parachute was swinging everywhere,and even brushed the nose of my car.
She gathered it up, got it under control, and stopped.
No damage to my junk.
