I have a 1991 with the stock L98 engine... My question is simple... Should my injectors have a boot on top of each of the connectors that the wires are in? Or did they stop doing that on the later L98 engines?

Reason I ask, is my dad has an 86 and each injector connector has a rubber boot that goes on top of each connector and covers the wires. Looks really nice.

If it's supposed to have those... Anyone know where I can get them?

Mine doesn't have any boots and I'm pretty sure it came that way from the factory.

No boots on my 91 either. Certainly stock, because I got it this way new in 91.

Here's the picture you wanted...

Just thought they looked nice. So was curious if the previous owner of mine just cut them off...

I wanted to revisit this. Joe and I were talking the other day and figured the boots have to be factory based on the way they are on the harness. They are one piece (no open seam), and there is no way to slip them over the injector plug.

Fast forward to yesterday, and I was looking at a guy's 86 - sure as heck, there were the injector boots on his car. So it seems they were factory on early cars, but I don't know the year range. Maybe we can get a consensus of when they were. I've seen 88s that didn't have them and I know my 89 doesn't currently. So I'm assuming a year range of 85-87, but it might be more narrow than that.

I owned an 86E a long time ago but don't remember any being on there. My memory is getting bad though so don't quote me.
I do know that they were not on the 87 I owned and are not on the 91 I now own.
Very interesting!

Those boots sure are purty. Wish they hadn't stopped using them.

OK...did some detective work at Carlisle. It appears that these boots were used in '85 and '86 only and no one could explain why. When ever I had time to find Gordon to ask him about it he was doing a seminar or busy at his booth.
My search continues to check for late '86 cars with aluminum heads.

Thanks, Mike! Could be isolated to iron headed motors? The world may never know....

Nope not isolated.. Just found some pics of Aluminum head '86 with the boots so it appears to '85 and '86 only.
Probably a Vendor change but most likely a cost cutting change.

Well, I had to do something, so I used some split cable sheathing and vinyl vacuum caps to tidy up the wiring a bit.

Two things Joe:

1) That doesn't surprise me you had to do that

2) Looks great!
