What is the correct head bolt torque. I am using ARP bolts with the thread sealer. The bolt says 70ft lb, but I want to be sure.

Tyler, yeah 65 - 70 ft lbs. Do it three increments though.

I usually use these targets:

1st sequence - 25 ft lbs
2nd sequence - 45 ft lbs
3rd / final - 70 ft lbs

Be generous with the ARP thread sealant.

70 is what the ARP book calls for on a 7/16 with ARP Lube.

And like Matt said 3 steps.

I had to buy the ARP sealer. It wasn't bad at $8 a tube. The bolts came with the grease, but the instructions said to use the sealant for the ones into the waterjacket. Wanna guess how many did this.

All of them on a LT1 because the depth of the holes in the block is very close to the waterjacket (and may be into the jacket).

Also a little oil on the bolt head where it meets the aluminum is a good idea.

The top row looked like they didn't go all of the way through, but when I was in better light you could see a few of them were open. No one stocked the ARP sealer around here either, so I had to order it.

I did not have good luck with the ARP sealant. I wound up using permatex with no sealing issues.

I didn't have luck with ARP sealant either had anti freeze leaking past threads and had to tear it down , clean up threaded holes etc. then used right stuff on treads ,as suggested buy short block builder, I was using studs on this motor, but also did this on my sons motor with bolts, works good. Buick dealers also sell tabs you throw into block water jackets upon assembly. know of builders that put them in all their short blocks
