This is the roadtrip me and a few friends want to take in a couple of summers. We want to take ~two weeks to do it. Maybe even buy a used van just for the trip.

Coast to coast hitting all the major cities/capitals along the way.
Resized Image

Route changes include dipping down to Pheonix and Miami since google maps doesn't like having to deal with all those destinations (lagged like crazy)

Oh, and also, since it'll be during the summer time, we'd be hitting a minimum of 5 beaches on all three coasts

That is fantastic. I've done the cross country road trip before, but only one way. My buddy moved back home from San Francisco so I flew out to meet him then we drove back the long way. We started north and headed into Seattle, then east through a route slighty north of yours. It took us about 10 days with the stops and we had a blast. I'd say there are still about six stories form that trip (6 years ago?) that I still tell today.

I know it's on the way, but Houston is about the most boring city USA has to offer, I spend a lot of time there. San Antonio is nice but I'm not sure it's worth adding that much trip to...I'd go New Orleans to Dallas. Edit: you're from Texas, I guess you knew that.

You meeting up with any guru or CF members along the way?

Well keep in mind, that is just what Google Maps says. It just assumes you will start driving and not stop until you get to the end. No way would you ever actually drive that trip without stopping.

Or at least I would hope not.

wow. Thats a lot of driving! You will have to stop and visit with us Guru's down here in LA, CA!

Reminds me of my move from Delaware. We went from Central Delaware, to Baltimore MD, west on I-70 then up to the PA Turnpike, back onto 70 through Wheeling, WV, on to Columbus, OH (stayed) ... we stayed on 70 to St. Louis, when we grabbed I-44 south to Springfield, MO (stayed).

Then on to OC, OK and on south to TX where we picked up I-40. Stayed in Amarillo, TX and continued west. Stayed again in Gallup, NM... we then got to Flagstaff and headed south on 17 to Pheonix, AZ and then onto the 10 and into LA. About 2400 miles.

The rental truck, loaded and towing my Vette, got about 11mpg. All in all, not bad... I really wish it had been a diesel, tho...

Yeah, it seems like it would be a fun trip (with the right people lol) 10 days seems a bit more than I was planning on, but I think most of mid-america could be boogied through since there isn't much I want to see.

And yeah, Houston is ok...it's just not really a tourist spot, it's all business.

Yeah, that's 24 hour driving lol. It's doable but that's not the point. Wanted to at least have a good chunk of a day in each city so there will probably be a couple of cuts made to the route just to get everything in. There just aren't enough hours in the day lol
