just started racing after a 47 year nap, some new frends talked me in to going to the track with them and race my vette. ive never raced againts lights just hand flag starts.my car is a 91 coupe with a older engine, not factory, its a 30 over 406 with speedpro 10/1 pistons, comp. soild roller cam 292/297. .582/588 lift. brodix track 10 heads, brodix intake with a 750 edelbrock carb. ok this is what hapened, my frend lined me up on the track, i did the burn without hurting anyone, he led me the stage pointed to the tree and said leave on the last yellow.all went fine and when i got back to the pits they were all clapping there hands. i thought they were clapping because i made it back to the pits without getting lost. they asked what am i going to do for an ancore, i got a .002 lite, havent got another since but a 004. this is a 1.8 bracket track. my time was 9.48 at 74 mph for my first ever pass.the next week ( i was hooked after the frist pass) the second time at the track i took runner up. not after racing most of the year, i got a late start and missed tht frist 10 weeks,i got 6th in points out of 71 in my class(street)i will turn 70 years before the start of the 2012 season and cant wait till next year, iam just getting started, what a blast. my best time this year was 8.00 flat at 88 mph. on my last two races of the year. what aaaa blast

Welcome. There are some occasional and regular racers here. I can appreciate your efforts. I too am a late bloomer. Started autocrossing 6 years ago and hit the 1/8th mile track for the first time a couple of years back. I was a street racer in my teens. The tree and the track get my blood flowing. Hope you enjoy yourself here.

Welcome. I race quite often at a fairly close 1/8th mile track and have a blast doing it. How did you go from a 9.48 all the way down to an 8.0? That is a huge difference.
Auto or manual trans?

its got a th350 turbo b/m master rebuild and shift kit, 3500 ptc stall 3.55 rear gears. the car was way to rich,i played with the carb, shanging rods then trying different jets and then springs until i got the right combow. then i started playing with timing and then tire pressure. tires are neeto streets 335/40/17s worked best at 17lbs.then i learned to drive the car, worked on the launch and little by little became a better driver. i started too mutch rpms, about 2800, droped to 2500 at launch and it hooked great after that.this took from july to the last of aug. to get the car where its at now. also what helped alot was that the track was resurfaced before my last two times of 8.00 at 88mph.iam sure that the new track helped some, but i learned alot about how the car wanted to run. that 9.48 was the very first time down track ever and kept getting better as i worked on my driving and on the car.

Sounds a bit like my experience. First time out I was running totally stock and 9.8-9.9 times. Now I am running 8.1 to 8.2 and fairly consistent 93 mph. Done at the track for now, but I will be back out there in the spring. Like yourself I really enjoy it.

Your car looks great and the specs sound really nice. Wish you were closer, we could have some fun out there together.

Welcome Dan!

One bad ass sounding Vette you got there!

I didn't notice, but is it still independent rear suspension? Do you have plans to go live axle?
