The government & roads in Nevada.

In Reno - the roads are full of pot holes, therer are some city streets I won't even take the C4 on.
So....what's the DOT doin' ? They have 2 crews out painting horseys on the overpasses, they're real purdy.

So....they're about to complete a new section of freeway in the county, from the Mount Rose Highway (near me) into Washoe valley spending millions & millions.
The new road will feature the longest arched concrete bridge in the country, it's real purddy.

There's huge, lighted signs on the current road into the vally that light up when it gets windy and prohibit large trucks, campers & trailers from driving on the road because of the wind.

So, where did they put the bridge? Up on the mountain where the wind is even worse.

So,,,,,,,,,they spend 7 years and millions on this road. And what do they say this week?????

"We did a study and it looks like we'll probably have to close down the freeway whwn it gets windy."

Some of the roads around here pass through more than one municipality and county.
As such the same road can have stretches of concrete, asphalt, be in repair or in bad repair.
It depends on who the responsibility of maintaining it falls on, the municipality, the county, the federal govt. or a combination.
They all usually try to pass the buck.
But everybody loves those federal dollars.
That's what your congressman is for, right?
BTW, cool looking bridge.

Great..... Now I guess they'll have to build a mountain on each side of the bridge to break the wind.

I'm not surprised.
Rather, appalled that we have allowed this blatant stupid behavior to continue.
For some, they make jokes and move on.
For others we let our voices rise and reach the high offices that "might" do something about it.
But alas, the voices cannot be heard over the deafening silence.

If there is any one function that the government should maintain a foot hold in is road care.
