First question I ordered a universal 3 piece front air dam

It in no way fits as the one that I just tore to pieces for the last time (another dog in the road again) Dam pit bulls.

The air dam was attached to the front cooling fan The holes in the front dam would not align. I think the previous owner with the kit add ons had what was looking like the big mouth type air dam. It had after market mounting brackes.

Does anyone have a picture of what it should look like. Thank god for a good drill and and screws it is mounted. The front fan has space so it does not rub.

Now the dumb ass thing . I was sure I had a spot where I could gently lift the passanger side of the vehicle only a few inches. Ya I know boom and water pouring out from the under side of the car. I put an nice hole in the wind shield water tank.

How do you remove the side panel to replace it. After screwing the last thing I thought it would be a little smarter to ask before I break something else.

And yes Andy this is a good time to remind me and all. The only real recomended safe spot to jack up the front of the vehicle.

Did you order a 1987 air dam? Or a 1991-1996 air dam?

That seems to be the first question... remember, your car has the revised front end.

You want to remove the side panel as in the "gill" area? There should be two hidden 10 mm screws along the bottom edge that you have to removed with a thin wrench that will fit in there. In addition to any other visible screws on the side.

Universal = Fits all but the one you have. Applies to all universal items, not just cars.

Actually you don't have to remove those screws. Just loosen them up good as the panel is slotted so it can slide out from under them. The 1984's were not slotted, but GM made the change to slotted panels in the 85 models.

And I guess another stupid question.

Where do the other two outer pieces attach???

The previous owner didn't install them. He said after he lowered the body 1" they were constantly being ripped off.

And that wouldn't surprise me.

The big mouth, I suspect, draws more air in... and these plastic things are just disposable. I may not replace mine again. Sound horrid on the drive way ramp.

FYI - without them as you approach 100mph the front end gets REAL light.
After that experience I put mine back on before I went to Road Atl again.

What I had to do was fiddle around with the inside metal piece and IIRC I had to drill a hole on each side to make the "universal" one to fit.

That was the reason the big mouth was to cool better it hit everything in the road way.

I also drilled holes in the universal one to make mine fit. They don't look right but they worked just fine.

I think about putting the other pieces I rarley go much over 130 and did not have that feeling. But I would suppose with diffirent road conditions it could flip the car.

Thanks guys for the advice.

Well Andy stupid ordered the wrong part. I needed the raidator pan that connects to the 3 piece. Replaced it the other day. Some times being on vacation lets your brain slow down and you can think. Thanks for the help Andy.
