Apparrently almost half of the working population has dreams of working till thay drop. Guess they plan on supplementing their meager Social Security benefits working at the local merchants as a greeter, bag boy/girl or cashier like so many before them. It's not that they are ignorant of the consequences of not saving for retirement. It's that they refuse to do it. Oh well. There is nobody to blame. It's a choice. Looks like almost half decided thet're going to tough it out.

Not a new problem. The boomers have always had a live for today kinda attitude......and a lot of savings went south with the economy. I plan on, the Lord willing, to go till I'm 70 then see where we are at. I enjoy the work and the people and really don't know what else I would do.
I love cars and bikes and will want to have projects in the future which will take some dollars to support....soooo I'm doomed to keep at it......partly by need and partly by my own choice.....unless I can get those six stupid little numbers to line up.... |

Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead.
Spend it, do it. You might get hit by a truck tomorrow and be paralyzed for life. Lay there thinkin' "I shoulda." I still have friends saying "One of these days, I'm gonna." I've lived this way since I got out of high school. But I did max out my 401 whwn I was working. |

I do not make much but what savings I had took a tank with the economy. An already small 401k dropped by more than half. Once it came back, I moved it, then when mom passed, wasn't much savings there either but had her bills plus mine to cover for a year while house was on the market, once house sold, I added that to the small pile. After losing three family members at one time, then the live in leaving at the same time as well as my job disappearing - I figured life is too damned short to hold on to what little I had that might not be there depending what president we have ruins the economy further. I moved some into an IRA, then paid off some things with some of it, bought the truck and the '02 Vette. I figure as long as my job pays my bills and I have a little bit of savings, by damned I will enjoy what I can of what I have - afterall - what damned good is a Vette if you can't drive the damned thing when you're 90? I have always wanted a convertible, now I have one and yes, I enjoy it all I can. That's what life is about. I work 3 days a week at my day job, and I freelance at home for extra cash. As long as I have everything I need and some of the things I want - I'm fine. I'll never be rich so what the hell?
