I bought a new set of motor mounts to go with my fresh engine (one was torn anyway) and the passenger side does not fit! The mount actually does not fit in the bracket. Very strange, since the LH and RH are the same part. So I took out my calipers, and sure enough, the new part is larger (the metal tube that the long bolt goes through), by a fair amount. I noticed the new part is made in India- Does GM build any parts outside of the Americas?

If this is a knock-off, I'll be pissed because I paid the AC-Delco price. Either the vendor got ripped off, or I got ripped. Don't AC-Delco parts ALWAYS come in some sort of packaging, with GM part number stickers all over? These were just floating around in the box with the other parts I ordered

Where'd you buy it from? I've never heard of GM parts from India, but that doesn't mean much.

I think my mounts are sagging a bit. How hard do you think it would be to replace with the engine in the car?

Nothing worse than a saggy mount. That's what I always say.

I believe the question should be; "Does GM built any parts INSIDE the Americas?"

Whatever the situation maybe, time to take the original part to the parts counter for a comparison.

Absolutely! Mexican engine blocks and engines, Canadian car assembly plants, etc. Remember, there isn't a whole lot of a car that a car manufacturer actually makes. Other than some engine castings and maybe a fender stamping or two, the car "manufactures are little more than designers and assemblers.

I said "Americas" on purpose... That includes Canada, Mexico, etc.

What bothers me is that these offshore factories go through the trouble of making a part, but it doesn't meet the original specification. Anyway, it is a sign of the times and not much will be done about it until it gets so bad these companies start loosing major business.

I talked to Merle at Exotic Muscle and he mentioned that he vaguely recalled hearing someone having to grind on their motor mount to make it fit.

Does it matter that much as to the hemisphere that your, or your neighbor's, job is exported to? Are you familiar with the Japanese built Camaros? The point remains, that the American auto companies haven't been manufacturers, but just assemblers, for a long time.

Japanese Camaro? Do tell!

My point was that I was not aware of GM using labor from asian third-world countries as parts suppliers for their American vehicles. Unfortunately after doing some research, it is more and more common as GM forces their suppliers to cut costs. Though I tend to trust Indian goods more than Chinese, but that is probably more of a personal bias than anything.

And trust me, I'm not happy about jobs being offshored. I buy American whenever there is a choice...

When I bought my u-joints last week at NAPA, I asked him where they were made. "Japan", he said. It's a sad commentary -- I buy American when I can, but have vowed NEVER to use Chinese parts on my car!
