Well, for 5 minutes anyway. My daughter gave me a Mario Andretti driving experience for Christmas, so just signed up to do it in April here at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Since I have had both vettes on that track already at least I will have something to compare it to. Hope the weather is really good that day.

Thought that was all on the oval.

I'd like to do it, would also be interested in the specs on the cars they let you drive, especially the spring rates.

Have fun.

It is an oval. Atlanta Motor Speedway (NASCAR track), not Atlanta Motor Sports Park (road course). I wish it was at the road course. I would bet the cars are not true F1 cars either.

Still good.

I know the HP will be cut back for safety (you could light up the tires and spin in 4th on a full boat car).

I wonder if they do anything to the clutch setup, open wheel racecars are really hard to pull away from a dead stop (flywheel weight). The flywheel and triple disc pressure plate on the car in my avatar is 6 in. and weighs 7 lbs totsl.

And I wonder what springs are on the car. A coilover autocross spring for a C5 is 550 lbs./per corner, the silver FCSSA car has 1,000 lb. springs and an Indy car can have up to 3,000 springs.

Just stuff wondering thru my head.

Still a damn,damn fast car.
They may not change much but the HP, who knows?

Last Thanksgiving I did 20 laps at LVMS with the Richard Petty Driving Experience. Quite expensive. But so are all the bucket list items. Fast lap was 40.1@134.5mph avg TS 149mph. Was it worth it? Oh HELL YES!

If it's anything like the cars that they use at Mario Andretti's thing, they are NOT full on Indy cars.

What they are is an Indy Lights car, with a 400hp small block Chevy and a 1 or 2 speed gearbox.

Basically, they are rather low geared (numerically) and will chug off the line, but give you that speed sensation. They are set up to top out at somewhere between 160 and 180. The speeds are controlled by the pace car, based on track conditions and temps. They don't want folks doing 180 around a hot slick track.

F1 does have a few ride-a-long cars, and they do used old detuned F1 engines. Usually customer Cosworth V10s.

Yes, I am doing the Mario Andretti thing. 400hp and 160-180 mph is fine. They do say no pace car and passing is allowed. I have had both the C4 and the C5 on the same track for special charity events. Best in the C4 was 135mph, and just a tad more at 140mph in the C5.

the track might be the limiting factor, then.

Even better news. I will be able to take my vette on the roadcourse at Atlanta Motorsports Park and use the three free track days I have left from last year. Sure made my day.
