So I had added the express down feature to the driver side window on my old 89
I have been meaning to do it to my 90 for some time now However I have a dilemma on what route to go. 1st option: add an express down module (GM) to both windows and have the feature on both sides 2nd Option: use the Directed Window automation unit. this will give me Express down and up and also will interface to my keyless to allow some remote operations For the GM modules I know the drivers I can put in the door I need to check to see if I have all the required wiring for a passenger side install, but it too would be in the door for the Automation unit i need to run 4 wires into each door from this centralized unit as the requirement is to connect basic at the motor.. I have all the parts to do either option, just not sure which I should do |

I like the directed features... the remote thing sounds good.

You got snappics uploaded for the install there Jeff?
One thing I always liked about my '98 GMC was the window express down gig... |

I would like that on mine. I love modern conveniences on older cars.

LOL @ Bogus
Yeah I just don't know if I want the wiring hassle and routing of the one module.. still on the fence for this one Schrade, No pics yet, all it would be is of the modules since nothing is installed and I don't have any from the 89 install |

I needed to update this..
The window modules had been sitting on my bench for a while. Well I had to fix the door panels in the car (94-95) kept unhooking at the top, so as it was apart I did the OEM Express down modules (out of character for me I know) BUT I am going to install a F-Body RAP unit since our car did not get RAP until 1991. The unit I have will be set up to allow the window to have power whenever the doors are open and no key in ignition |

RAP = Retained Accessory Power
it will leave the windows and radio with power up to 10 minutes after key it off or until you open the door (whichever happens first) but the F-body unit has a secondary output that will allow power once the door is open and retain power for 45 sec after the door is shut |

I have mine wired to stay on until the doors are locked. And some other fancy custom b.s. that I never use that sounded like a good idea at the time. I wired a "latching relay" to my keyless entry to keep the accessory powered until the door lock ground hits it. In fact I used the 4th button to turn on the accessory circuit remotely.
A timer would be good, especially if the windows were added to it, even without auto-buttons. Stock they are dead with the car off. But if you want remote windows, then they should always be powered. I can't see any purpose for remote windows within 10 minutes of getting out of the car. Personally I would want it for airing the car out from inside my office on a hot day, or closing it up before rain, etc. And I sure would not want a 2nd remote, I would have to combine it with a keyless remote. And maybe a down bump button, that will drop both windows an inch with a single touch, would be useful, while you're in there. |
