The quick and easy, down and dirty way to tell, is the bolt in the center at the top and bottom. The D36 has a bolt in the center, top and bottom. The D44, on the bottom only. Even if you can't tell, in a pic, say, which is the top or the bottom, two center bolts...D36. One center bolt only...D44.
