That reminds me of something I've been meaning to ask. What's the biggest (c.i. wise) you can safely go with the LTx block?

SonnyinVa has a 409 LT4. I've heard of standard SBC combos as large as 454.

Thanks, any idea where I could get more info on the 409? And any reason you couldn't go higher with the LTx? And if you could, any reason you wouldn't want to?

The main reason is, that there was never an LTx block with larger than a 4.00" standard bore. Whereas the Gen I 400 block has a 4.125" standard bore.

I know cylinder wall thickness is a factor but can't most blocks be bored out a bit? Well, after typing my reply, I thought I'd get my lazy fingers to do a little work and this is something I found (in case anyone other than me is interested):

Certainly but I mentioned their factory bores as a starting point. The 1/8" larger bore of a 400 block gives it substantially more displacement capability than an LTx or any other 350 block.

So then as far as dispacement cost is concerned it's a cheaper build to start with the 400, right?

If you're still talking an LTx build though, the 400 block isn't usable with it.

Largest I heard with a stock block is a 421ci.

The walls are real thin though, so you'll need to shop around

With long strokes you need to run a reduced base circle cam.

Here's a good pic to keep in mind.
