Half Shafts - done
First pic is of the condition of the drive shaft but the half shafts were the same. It's impossible to get the half shafts looking like day one because the tubing is seamless steel, very smooth and shiny. Once they rust pit, all you can do is get close. |

So, how many points for pits?
Or is it a pit per point? |

Got the trailing arms mostly done, parking brakes assembled.
I just have to press the bearings on to the stub axles and install BUT first I have to chuck the axles in the lathe, install the rotors and try and find one with the least amount of runout. I have 6 rear rotors to go thru. At the factory, they riveted the rotors to the axles then turned them. Once they are removed and not indexed, you're screwed. The trailing arms sure were rusty. |

I'd say that's a significant improvement. They riveted the rotors on? Sounds like it would make for a laborious brake job.

Just for the parking brakes, unless the rotors need turned. It takes quite a while to get the runout close, install the rotor, torque the wheel nuts, take a reading. Then do it again after rotating the rotor one or 2 studs. PIA. |
