I have some old rickety 3-legged stands that I don't trust, so I'm going to get some new ones before I start working on the car this spring. I'll be pulling the exhaust and installing headers, so I need adequate clearance to work under there (I'm reasonably slim). I don't want to spend an arm and a leg, but also don't want said arms and legs squashed. Any particular brand or size I should look at, or shy away from?

Thanks!

Recently bought four 6 ton stands at Pep Boys that I am pleased with. The larger capacity stands will allow you to get the car higher.

As Droptop said Pep Boys. I bought some from Sears that are heavy duty. Not expensive! Been under the car with them alot. I still put blocks under the wheels however. Seen the results of cars comming down. Not pretty!

I've heard that the stands to go for are the 12 ton stands from harborfreight.com. They are currently $70 for a pair. I will be buying some very shortly and I would also be interested in anyones feedback on stability and price. I am rather paranoid about safety. I have used concrete blocks in the past but have read that was a very bad idea. Learning something new everyday.

I use 4 of the Harbor Freight stands. They are O.K. I don't trust any stands so I always leave the jack under it and smaller stands to insure tht there is a wide crush zone.
