Hey guys,

Today I was doing some minor projects on my car when I decided to turn it on and rev it up a little. I reved it up and down and when I got into higher RPMs white smoke entered the car.

I popped the hood open and while I was looking I revved my car again and noticed the white smoke was coming around the passenger side valve cover. I did post up an issue with oil possibly leaking around that area.

Could the valve cover gaskets be the problem? the white smoke seemed to be coming around the valve cover area from what I could see.

Another thing was that I have LT4 roller rockers and im using my old valve covers. I havent really noticed an issue with cleareance but its hard to explain but one or two of the valve cover bolts have oil around the bolts. kind of confused about this. I have been losing quite a bit of oil somehow so maybe that might be the problem

My friend told me to put some kind of sealant around the gasket and valve cover in order to seal it up but not sure what to do about the bolts.

Any help would be great! thanks.

it sounds like the rubber grommets on the bolts have given up the ghost.

you have a valve cover leak... get a new gasket set and replace. the grommets will come with the gasket set.

and btw how does that happen? just wear? and could that explain losing a lot of oil? thanks!

There is a tube on that side that the PCV system used for inlet air. It runs from the throttle body back the the intake manifold. There is a rubber grommet on the end of the tube. Make sure the tube is plugged in and the grommet is not worn out. I would also check the PCV valve for proper operation. It is on the driver side under the injector cover. Later! Frank

it's not fair, but the 1992 LT1 uses different valve cover gaskets. We can use conventional valve cover gaskets. Also, call Chris May at Superior Chevy, 1.800.728.8267 (tell him C4 Guru sent ya) and get a gasket set from him.

Also, NAPA used to stock the kit, from FelPro, for the 93-97 LT1.

It sure can be. Can you see more carefully where it's coming from?

Oh, there's grommets, they're probably just so rock hard from age that you thought they were plastic, or maybe they're even painted over.
