I need some tubing that is 5/16 inch through the middle. I spaced my AC bracket off with washers, 5 stacked up, but I think tubing would be the better way to go. I had to do this to clear the valve cover.

Any suggestions where I can get tubing that I can just cut to the thickness I need it for spacers?

It's working fine with the washers, but it would look better and be easier to deal with if I had tubing.

Thanks.

Some 1/4" black pipe should be about right for that. Get a piece long enough that you can cut off the threaded ends and have enough stock for the length you need. Shouldn't cost more than a buck or two at the hardware store.

Seem to recall seeing steel tubing at Home Depot in various common ID's 5/16", 3/8" etc. if you don't care for the black pipe. It is in the hardware section with the other small flat, angle, square metal stock.

The tubing will probably work but, it won't give you much bearing surface since it's fairly thin walled compared to the washers. If you have access to a drillpress, you could make some spacers with the same OD as the washers.

I agree with BillH about conventional thin-wall tubing not likely being
satisfactory for compression loads.

With as little as a hand drill, hacksaw, file and emery cloth, a spacer
can be fabricated from solid material.

Alternatively, look under the hoods of other vehicles for OEM accessory
bracket spacers that have the correct ID/OD and which are at least as
long or longer than you require. If necessary, cut/grind/file to length.

Earlier cars with V-belt systems typically have one or more spacers.
