I bid on one off of Ebay.

I hate Ebay but this is one thing that will not come up too often on Craigslist.

It's not that bad actually. You'll a few relays from radioshack. I have the 84 wiring diagrams also.

Just bad timing maybe. I was noticing the same thing with my daily chats.

There's still plenty of love in the room, man.

I too bought the vke1000 on ebay several years ago and installed it on my c4, followed the batee instructions and it worked perfectly, there were no surprises. I also set it up to pop the rear hatch, this is a big time-saver.

jhammons, I'll whip out my 84 electrical manual and do some head scratching for you as soon as I get a chance. I just got mine off jackstands yesterday.

We should be able to do all or most of the wiring right at the factory alarm module on the passenger side.

I'll look at using relays to allow keyless locking+arming while the doors are already shut, this is something none of the other VKE1000 installs have accomplished, including mine.

Also you can wire a 4th channel to work when unlock+lock are pushed simultaneously, if you have any creative ideas on what to control. I used my extra channel to control a latching relay which turns on the accessory circuit.

^^ You know me, nothing fancy is needed. I just want to be able to unlock the doors...both of them and pop that hatch.

I use my car a lot for working, so just picture the hassle of.....

While Flying back home with a co-worker. Getting to the car....I have to drop suitcase, unlock car with key, open door, push the unlock button for the other door, push the button for the hatch, walk back and pull the hatch up....

All the while the co-worker is watching the circus.

Do you realize the mental Anguish having a Key fob for every other car has caused me!! I'm dyin' over here just dyin'!!!! :thumbleft:

But you do have electric locks don't you? I know some of the early vettes came with manual locks only.

BTW, you should get some hatch struts!

Keyless was one of the best mods I did to my car, something you can enjoy every day of the week. Now I take it for granted.

Yeah I have electronic locks.

And the Hatch thing WAS on the schedule for this weekend but the window Broke.

Pappyfreebirds post about the hatch struts prompted me to want to replace them.

Now I have to dig into the Driver door and check to see if the ribbon broke or what......

Those door panels are ALWAYS a fun time.

Sometimes when I'm bored on a weekend I reinstall the door panels repeatedly while listening to smooth jazz.

Woohoo! the system got here today!!

The guy on ebay said it was for his 2000 Chevy truck.....but the instructions use a C4 for all the diagrams!

I gotta water pump and a smog pump to replace first, so this project is placed on the back burner.

Does this work with an 85, I still use the old "Key in the Door" trick to lock/unlock mine.

Yes, it will work for all C4s. and as the ebay guy described it was used for a ton of GM vehicles

The problem now is finding one. GM discontinued them.

Since I already have mine....and don't need another.....I googled the term VKE 1000. I found this guy selling this one in Colorado on some local bbs. I emailed him and the next day He replied stating that I was a day too short. He just listed it on Ebay.

He sent me the link and I watched it. Only one other bid on it......but just once so I got it with a Proxy bid.

TWO HOURS LATER, some yahoo emails me and tells me that if the system is in new condition, He'll give me $150 for it. I just paid $86 so I could make a penny or two...but the system is worth more to me than that $150.

Do the 84/85's need the 2 extra relays to lock/unlock like the newer C4's (92)? Just curious.
I got a complete keyless with the relays on a separate board for $65 3 years ago. It also included a complete alarm system. It still works great after 3 years.

^^that sounds like an after market system.

This system hooks directly to the factory alarm system via the harness.

Damn,

Good score on the VKE 1000, I have one in my 89, works great. I wanted one for my 90 but could not find one anywhere, even eBay, I ended up buying a Valet 712t and installed it. Ironically all the wire colors are the SAME as the VKE. I was tempted to swap the Valet in my 89 and the VKE in the 90 but the Valet has a couple more options.

The Valet has progressive unlock whihc I used for the hatch, press unlock once to unlock/disarm twice to pop the hatch. this way I alway know the car is disarmed. then I will use the other 2 channels for a window controller I think

Also CentralCoaster.

if you figure out a way to ARM while the Doors are shut that would be AWESOME. that is the only thing lacking on my VKE and Valet installs

Why do you say that?

If you look back, CC is challenging what I said about the alarm system and betting me a Steak dinner over the deal.

Then you come along and add to what CC said....meaning I am going to be buying him the Steak.....
