A co-worker, Bob, has a sailboat. The main motor pulley that powered the water pump and alternator was torn up by a bracket that fell onto the pulley.

The motor is an old 12hp single cylinder Yanmar diesel. It's from the mid-70s and the parts houses proved to be utterly useless. There was this strange regional rivalry thing. Bob would call a shop in say, MD, and they would say, oh we can't sell it to you in CA. Check a local dealer and they can request a transfer. The local dealer would say that the MD shop didn't have the part... or something to that effect. Either way, the entire thing sucked.

So he had a friend of a friend make it. And the pictures speak for themselves. It's made of stainless steel. Weighs quite a bit for being a small part....

Most people do not realize the amount of time invested to machine something like that. A lot of work involved and at least 4 setups to do that!
Very nice looking part

Some fun lathe work, then probably finished off the holes on a mill or rotary table, and a broach tool!

A REAL good friend considering the work that went into that! Nice job.

That's probably the most expensive pulley in the harbor right now.
