Curious to see how many of you have done the C5 brake conversion and road race/autocross with them. Did anyone spread their calipers like alot of C5 guys have? If so what did you upgrade to from there?

The C5 calipers are still a slide rail caliper, and a mediocre one at that. The issue is wheel clearance for a 4 or 6 pot caliper. If you have the clearance, the Wilwood SL6R, Brembo, PFC etc, are a big improvment. You can get the Caddy CTS-V Brembo for about $200 each, then make an adapter.

I use the Electro-Dynamics adapters and C5 front calipers.

For my purposes, the change was a cost-effective upgrade
from the 12" brakes that were OEM on the car. At the
time, new calipers were well under $100/ea (exc hardware).

The big cost lay in the E-D brackets at a time when there
were no alternatives - still, I have no regrets about the
E-D brackets. The bigger outlay was for wheels (& tires)
that would fit over the larger brakes.

I've replaced the calipers once with new C5 ones for about
$200 and I have a set of little-used take-offs on hand for
the next time.

Rotors come from NAPA for $40-50 CDN. They are or used to
be available from RockAuto for less but the shipping adds
up for me.

The reports about the regular C6 caliper appear to indicate
that it is nearly if not a direct replacement for my C5's
and a worthwhile improvement the next time I need calipers.

What is your intended application - road race/autoX is
fairly broad when considering braking needs. Also, what
sort of budget is there for initial outlay and then for
on-going maintenance?

And you are also talking about a huge difference in money to go with the huge difference in braking. The C5 stuff is a decent small step and anybody who is thinking hard about track duty, already knows they need a heavy duty caliper/pad/rotor.

We are talking about C4 guys. Most of these people have bought a car for 6-10k, and most of them are not going to dump 3k in a front brake set up.

That's why he suggested this:

How about a ready made adapter Gary?

The Caddy CTS - V Brembo idea sounds pretty sweet. Going to look deeper into it as far as pad availability, service longevity etc. If pad selection is good that would make a nice upgrade after the new C5 calipers die a horrible heat soaked death at the track.
