ME!!!
I was laid off today. The parent corp, which means the company I worked for, is having financial problems. I got a nice little severance, the ability to collect unemployment, and, a very nice letter of recommendation. There is also the real possibility that I could get my job back in a few weeks, once revenues improve. All in all, they handled it well. I suspected something was up, because none of us were given any assignments in the recent weeks, that's because the exec team were trying to raise funds so the company could survive... they have a product coming out Sept 1. If that flies, they are golden, if not... well... the rest of'm are looking for work. |

oh, yea... this is more like 16 months old...
It wasn't a bad unemployment... I had unemployment bennies, so I had money coming in (about half of my income), a DAMNED good reference and health insurance. It was a rather nice vacation, really. About a month after the layoff, I got close to a couple of gigs, but they didn't fly... it was the end of Oct when I got the job I have now. And it's been a good gig, too! |

That sux, especially at this time of year. Hopefully your severance + unemployment will see you through until you land something else (and with luck, better).
I'm waiting for the shoe to drop with my employer. The rumors are about a 15% cut (45,000 jobs). Luckily I'm close enough to retirement that if they want to sit down and talk package I'm ready to listen.
