I missed the Speedventures event due to illness, but I think I'll head to Cal Speedway with these guys.

They said they only have 20 freakin cars signed up, so I'm guessing that means lots of empty track.

They don't run over here in the east. Mostly south and west.

They popularlized the whole Time Trial craze in the US, mostly ricers, though, from what I've heard.

No reason not to go, seems like a good organization.

Good, I'll teach some of those rice cookers a lesson with my 200rwhp piece of glass.

Also coming up, Hooked on Driving at Buttonwillow, July 18.
They had their S.Cal and Vegas region kickoff at BW on May 6th. HoD just opened up their S.Cal region.
They usually have very good instructors.

Did I ever post the video of a "mildly" modified EVO pulling away from my 400 rwhp Corvette on the back straight at Mid-Ohio? He put 100 yards on me by the end of a 3/8 mile straight.

My post was tongue in cheek mostly.

But it seems like the cheaper the car, the better the driver in general. It's a whole different group of people on the track vs. the stereotypes and egotistical tools you find on the street.

Getting on the track and finding that I can't pull an S2000 on the straightaway, is humbling. And it's amusing watching a noob in a brand new Z06 hold up everyone because he thinks that STi riding his ass can't possibly be faster than him.

After experiencing what's out there, I don't even bother anymore with all the talkers away from the track.

Part of me though loves showing up in the old 'vette. I'd like to think it'll open some minds of all these ricers who have the wrong preconception about vettes or American sportscars in general.

How many times have you heard that Corvettes are only fast in a straight line?

I know, and in this case it was the ricer that had all the horsepower. He certainly didn't walk me on the straight because he was a better driver.

Everytime there are Miata drivers around. They know their cars suck so they are always vocal about how well they handle but get caught on the straights (by Civics ). Strange how I'm always passing them in corners...

Miata's absoutely suck. The Spec Miata drivers that say these things handle good have never driven a car that handles good. They call 'em "race cars" but there's tracks where you only use 3rd and 4th in a 5 speed to run the whole track.
The scaryest thing to do in one is run in an enduro, at night watching the headlights coming up on you in the mirror.

I was impressed with the Miatas at the local autoX, but even on that extremely tight course, the top C4 driver in AS class was beating their times.

I'm taking a wild guess that those miatas take a lot more mods than the C4 to improve lap times.

They probably do OK at an autoX.
I've driven them a bunch on the road courses, the driving school I worked at had a few for the students.
These were Spec Miata's (very limited mods), so doing some serious mods would improve them a bunch. But the stock motors don't light my fire, certainly not like a smallblock does.

Ok, well I'm all signed up.

Weather forecast is a cool 69*F. Compared to this last weekend I missed, it was 101*F.

California Speedway sucks in the peak of the summer. Nascar tries to play it off like it's located in Hollywood when in fact it's about 50 miles into the desert.

Stay tuned for vids.

Is there going to be a cool crash at the end of this one, too?

If you don't wrinkle some body panels or lose consciousness on occasion, you aren't trying hard enough.
