bastet, currently ads are deleted automatically 30 days after the expiration date, so they would be unrecoverable. The 30-day limit can be changed though if you wish.

No need to worry. After the ad expires the user can go into the classifed section and on the left tab under classified Ads hit VIEW MY ADS and you click on your expired stuff and now you can renew them.
