Well, as I had mentioned before, I got my magnaflow catback (15658) the other day. I tried to install it and found that the y-pipe was hitting the front brackets for the spare tire carrier...pretty bad. It was obvious that the exhaust was either measured wrong or bent wrong. I contacted magnaflow and after waiting for the weekend, got the message through the "head of R&D" that the problem was that my brackets were too low and I needed to adjust them. What a bullshit answer. Kinda pissed me off, really. BTW, the brackets were almost as high as they could go. That wasn't the problem. Well, being the problem solver that I am, I whipped out the sawzall, cut 1/2" off the front of the catalytic converter, and reinstalled it. That moved the rear flange forward enough that the exhaust fits without hitting, and I can still use the spare tire carrier. The hardest part of the job was that the spare tire carrier bolt was rusted inside the tube and it took me about 1/2 hour to get it out!

Interesting, a friend from the forum JD'S WHITE 93, just ordered their new 3" system for his car, can't wait to hear how his fits.
Your mod seems to be exactly what it needed and it looks great, how do you like the sound?

I like the sound of it so far. Nice low rumble when driving, a little louder when you step on it. I didn't notice much drone at 1200 rpms, but I only drove it about 2 miles to make sure everything was snug and not leaking. I plan on putting a carsound hi flow cat on it in the next few weeks, that might up the db factor, but I don't know how much. It's also in the "break in period" so I don't know if it'll get louder. If it's too loud, I'll just stuff some steel wool in the outlets like others have done. I sure like the look of it, though.

Yeah, I love the look. Sounds great, too. Minor drone at 1400, but nothing horrible.

well, I always use a muffler shop for these things. Those guys are pro's at making things fit. Whenever I had anything installed, there is always cutting and re-welding of flanges etc.

In Magnaflow's defense, if you shipped that same exhaust....and some other C4 was a bit different....what would you say "if" the part you cut....was too short?? You can't add to it without welding...but you can trim some off like you did.

I'd rather be in the trimming situation than in the "trying to stretch the pipe" situation

Looks nice. Seems to be pretty typical Magnaflow/Carsound customer service... I will refrain from sharing my experience with them.
