Its time to move up. I got the g/f to sell her pos and now she wants to move up to my GS500.

And I'm pretty sick of it anyways, too slow and old tech.

I've only been riding 6 months, I need something that's friendly for longer rides and commuting, but still sporty and lightweight, but softer suspension/seat than a full-on sport bike. I don't weigh squat either, so I don't need much power. I need to be able to carry a passenger reasonably comfortably and have just a tiny bit of storage, which my current bike doesn't have.

I think I want something with a bit of torque. Yesterday I test rode a carb'd Honda Superhawk (1000cc), that bike had some cajones. Probably more than I need.

I'm gonna look at a CBR 600 F4i this weekend. I also need to check out the Suzuki SV650. I haven't read a single bad thing about those yet. But the naked version looks hideous with that awkward radiator stuck on there.

Is fuel injection overrated?

Looking to spend around $5K tops for a used bike.

I don't know much about sport bikes specifically , but after riding my uncle's fuel injected harley vs my carbed ace 1100 - I would never buy a carbed bike again. My personal opinion. Plus, with upgrades you don't have to rejet the carbs (which I did on my ACE) you just get a programmer.

Check out Honda VFR 800s. Very comfy. Very reliable. Way cool single sided swingarm, and a great sound. I always wanted one, but always broke down and bought more sport-oriented machines instead and regretted it.

Here's one, but in PA. Good price...

Interesting. Linked brakes, injection, and a big tank. I'll do a search.

Sound is important! My current bike sounds like a singer sewing machine.

Pretty much any bike sounds like a sewing machine from the factory. If you put a race exhaust on the GS, it would probably sound pretty mean.

The VFR in stock trim would be a quiet machine. That is the nature of this ultra-refined beast. But put some after market cans on it, and look out!

I heard one just the other day while I was eating lunch. I had to stop for a moment and just enjoy the music.

A buddy of mine (yet again, the guy with the C1 Vettes) had a yellow SuperHawk. He took the baffles out of the stock exhaust. That bike sounded GREAT! Set off car alarms though. The riding position on the SuperChicken wasn't TOO bad, but the VFR is an all-day rider. Through decades of fine tuning, it is one of the overall best motorcycles ever made.

Taking into account my vast riding experience (30+ years on 2 wheels) - here's some ideas.....

But, honestly, I think this is something you can handle.....
(In fact, it might be too big for you rookie riders.....)

I could probably afford that Beamer in the last pic. It looks very lightweight and fuel efficient. What's the displacement?

Found it - this should do the trick!

(Well, at least it won't sound like a sewing machine.....)
