Some kinda short in the 'lektrical system?

My daughter's Suzuki Esteem got about a gallon of water inside of it one evening after a heavy rain. We went out the next morning, and the lights were on. Couldn't turn them off.

We unhooked the battery, drained the car, and let it dry out for a few days, and that solved it. A little different than your problem, most likely, but anyway...

Something is screwy, that's for sure!

You don't have any small children with a knack for auto theft around, do ya?

Might be a puter problem? We had that issue in the army a few years back with the Hummers, the control box (computer) had to be replaced on a TON of them. I actually saw it happen first hand. I was walking down the line and getting all of them straight so we would have 1 guy in one and 1 in another and so forth. Well after we get 1 good we move the driver down to the next, anyway, I am walking down to the next row of vehicles and was about to start guiding one guy on line when I hear a truck start and it kept turning over so I run down there yelling for the driver to knock it off when I discover there is no driver and the switch was off! So we ripped off the battery cable. It was a strange experience for sure.

it ain't the computer. It has NOTHING to do with the starter.

I would check the ignition switch under the steering column.

If the starter solenoid 12V input is shorting to another 12V wire somewhere...

Or perhaps a really fubar'd solenoid could short internally?

Get a look underneath at the starter wiring, see if anything's melted.

whoa... dude... don't do that on grass. Drive it to a parking lot somewhere.

Just avoid the grass. The stands will sink right into the ground. It's not safe.

Read this, too: Towing and Jacking Your C4.

Totally agree, in fact thats how the damage on my van happened, my brother jacked up the van in his yard and the car slipped off the jack. I dunno if it was the jack sinking or what but it fell none the less.

I would rather money spent at a mechanic than at the ER.

Good move!

I had this happen to me one day while working on the stereo system of my '82 Mustang. The starter solenoid shorted out and the engine started to turn over slowly as I was sitting in the car. This is why you should always disconnect the battery before doing any electrical work. I changed out the solenoid, and the car was fine, no melted wires.

Yep, solenoids can definitely do this. I've seen it more than once.
