Here is my other toy. A 1980 AMC AMX Spirit. AMC 360 performance engine. 3:73 gear. I built the motor and restored the whole car. This car was completed in July of 2002. It still looks like it was just finished yesterday. Alot of Engine modifications. No creature comforts here. Fast car. Pushing around 400hp.

I love it. I had a 69 Javelin SST with 360 in it. That car would smoke a lot of Camaros and Mustangs in the 70s.

So, do other Spirit owners wave, or are they snobs?

Very cool ride!

All depends on which gen Spirit they're driving!

I agree, very cool. I'm old, so I love seeing these cars survive. Never owned an AMC, but rumor has it that 360 could scream.

Hello All,

Thanks for the compliments. AMC folks usually wave because there arent many around, or they are looking for parts.I have the car for sale on carsonline.com. I like the car, but I dont drive it much anymore. Its been raining here so much and I dont like driving a steel car in the rain. I dont mind driving my Corvette because I know its not gonna rust out. I favor my Corvettes now. I sold off most of my AMC's and bought my Corvettes. I had a 69 Javelin,68 AMX, 82 Spirit & 73 Hornet X. It is very different and my own creation of paint scheme. You can see the Red, White & Blue paint scheme from the front, back, side and air. I did the same restoration as I did on my Corvette, but the engine is really built up on the AMC. The car looks, drives and smells new. I do get alot of attention and thumbs up whenever I drive it. Its definately not a highway car because of the gear and three speed transmission. Heres a few more pics of the restoration and a video.

Joe

I sure would love to be that talented. I'd give up my charm and good looks to be able to put a car together like that!

Nice work!

that is bad to the bone!

So... what's it like driving your only parts source? I swear... AMC's are becoming as rare as hens teeth.

I had one... a 1976 Pacer. What a POS that was. I was a fat kid with a totally geeky mobile... It guarenteed I wasn't getting any in high school. I should have painted flames on it.

That is a bad looking car, tho. I love the look. Curious, why didn't you lower it any? Those things sat high then... I always wondered why.
